About Create-A-Skate
According to Paul Schmitt, the program’s founder, Create A Skate is a national educational curriculum where kids make skateboards in school, they learn about the relevance of forestry, ecology, math, science, engineering, vocabulary, geography, and how all of this stuff comes together in the making of a skateboard. Create a Skate provides curriculum materials, videos, and uncut pressed decks for schools participating in the program. The rest is up to the students. Learn more about Create-A-Skate. 

At The Dew Tour
Stop by the Skate DSM booth in the Dew Tour Experience on 2nd Ave to sign up to participate in an abbreviated version of the Create-A-Skate program.

Sessions are approximately one hour long and attendance is limited to just six people per session. Here you’ll learn how the worlds of science and mathematics and art all come together in something as basic as a skateboard. You’ll be able to understand why a skateboard deck has seven plies, and why, and you’ll also discover how uni-directional wood grains affect the arrangement of the plies and how they’re laminated together, and why.

Participants will get an un-sanded skateboard deck based on their height. Participants will sand and design their deck based on their own creative style.

How to Participate
Tickets can be purchased at the Skate DSM boot in the Dew Tour Experience on July 29th and 30.
